Crocus (Crocus) Crocus sp.

Crocuses, also known as saffrons, are the first bloomers of the spring garden with their yellow, blue-purple, and white flowers. Their value is increased by good winter hardiness and spreadability.
The Crocus genus includes over 80 species, and there are even more cultivars. The range of flower colors varies from purple-red to blue, from orange-yellow to white, variegated, or bi-colored. Funnel-shaped flowers open in the sun and close at night and in rainy weather. The curved, narrow leaves are about 10–15 cm long and often have a light central stripe.

Cultivation, care, and propagation of saffron:

Saffron grows from the thickened underground stem, a corm. A new corm grows on top of the old corm, where the nutrients produced by the leaves are stored for the next flowering, so the leaves must be allowed to wither at their own pace. Even when planted on a lawn, the leaves must be allowed to wither before the first mowing.
