Study: Mediterranean Diet - Psoriasis
The MEDIPSO clinical study has been published in JAMA Dermatology.
The study shows that the Mediterranean diet can alleviate psoriasis symptoms and improve quality of life. Key findings from the studies:
• The Mediterranean diet reduced psoriasis severity over 16 weeks compared to the control group.
• Medscape reported that the diet improved symptoms regardless of weight loss, suggesting an anti-inflammatory effect.
• According to AJMC, participants' PASI scores decreased significantly, and positive effects on metabolism were also observed, such as reductions in HbA1c levels.
• HealthCentral highlights that this is the first randomized study of its kind showing "dramatic improvements" in just 16 weeks.
What does this mean in practice?
The Mediterranean diet — rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, fish, and especially extra virgin olive oil — appears to support the management of psoriasis through its anti-inflammatory effects.
Of course, it does not replace medical treatment, but based on research, it can be a significant addition in controlling symptoms.
