Meatballs in a Sauce Flavored with Dark Rum

"We all have a picture in our minds of the meatballs our mother used to make. Everyone is entitled to keep those memories close.
I’m focusing on the sauce – the part that, in my opinion, deserves a little modern twist to brighten it up for today."
The Sauce:
Pour a splash of canola oil into a pan and heat it up. Add a suitable amount of wheat flour and stir with a wooden spatula until the mixture turns a lovely golden brown.
Gradually add water in small amounts, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
Season with salt and a dash of dark rum.
Let the sauce simmer gently for a while longer so the flavors can mellow and blend.
