Ingredients: Blackcurrants, water, sugar, salt, potato flour

SiriSiri: "Plant currants in your yard, and you will get plenty of berries for dishes.

Challenge your municipality to allow different useful plantings on otherwise unused land for everyone's enjoyment."

- Blackcurrants are full of anthocyanins, which are natural antioxidants.
Anthocyanins are red, blue and purple pigments found in the cell sap of plants. Anthocyanins are water-soluble flavonoids, many of which are considered to be health-promoting. There is evidence that anthocyanins have anti-cancer and anti-cardiovascular effects.
- Studies have shown that consuming blackcurrants can reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the body.
- A study by the University of Eastern Finland found that consuming blackcurrants with meals can balance blood sugar fluctuations.
The study results showed that blackcurrants curb the sudden spikes in blood sugar caused by sugary foods and the rapid drop that follows. This not only reduces the risk of sudden fatigue or lack of energy, but may also help prevent long-term problems such as type 2 diabetes.
- A Finnish clinical study found that regular consumption of berries, including blackcurrants, can provide significant benefits to heart health.
- According to the study, blackcurrants help lower blood pressure, which is an important factor in preventing heart disease. They also increased “good” HDL cholesterol.
- The anthocyanins in blackcurrants may provide a variety of support for eye health.
- Supporting brain and mental health: Anthocyanins’ ability to improve blood flow to the brain and protect nerve cells from oxidative stress may be key to preventing cognitive decline.
- Skin health: Blackcurrant seed oil is rich in essential fatty acids, such as omega-6 fatty acid (linoleic acid) and omega-3 fatty acid (alpha-linolenic acid). These compounds are known for their skin-nourishing and anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, the fatty acids in the oil strengthen the skin's barrier, preventing moisture loss and protecting the skin from external stimuli.
- According to Frontiers in Nutrition, the anthocyanins contained in black currants have a positive effect on sports performance and recovery. Anthocyanins have been found to reduce muscle soreness after exercise and improve muscle recovery after intense exercise.
The study found that black currants can also improve oxygen transport to the muscles, which increases endurance and performance, especially in endurance sports.
- Joint health: Black currant seed oil contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which is known for its anti-inflammatory properties.
- According to Royal Society of Chemistry Publications, black currant leaf extract has been found to have antiviral properties, especially against influenza A viruses. Studies show that these extracts can prevent viruses from entering host cells, slowing their spread in the body.
