Proteins, also known as protein substances, are both energy and protective nutrients. Proteins provide the building blocks, amino acids, which the body uses to form tissues and hormones, among other things. Some amino acids are essential, meaning they must be obtained from food. Proteins help maintain and build muscle mass and support the normal functioning of the skeleton.
Eggs, alongside fish, meat, poultry, and dairy products, are one of the best sources of protein, as they contain a lot of high-quality protein. Eggs are a practical part of a balanced and varied diet.
Eggs contain omega-3 fatty acids
The fat in an egg is found in the yolk. A medium (55 g) egg contains 6.9 g of protein and 5.1 g of fat. Of the fat, only 1.3 g is saturated.
Most of it is therefore unsaturated fat. Eggs are also a source of omega-3 fatty acids.
The amount of cholesterol in an egg is low and poses no risk to healthy individuals. The cholesterol in eggs does not raise the level of harmful LDL cholesterol in the blood. Additionally, eggs do not contain harmful saturated fatty acids.
