Recent research shows that daily use of olive oil can significantly reduce the risk of dying from dementia – by up to one-third. The Mediterranean diet as a whole supports brain health and may slow the development of Alzheimer's disease.
Here are the key findings from the latest studies:

Effect of olive oil on dementia mortality
 - A Harvard University study followed 93,000 people over 28 years.
 - Those who consumed an average of 7 grams of olive oil per day were 33% less likely to die from dementia than those who did not use it at all.
 - The effect was observed regardless of other dietary habits.
 - In particular, replacing margarine or mayonnaise with olive oil was associated with a lower risk.

Mediterranean Diet and Alzheimer's Prevention
 - The Mediterranean diet, which includes plenty of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fish, and olive oil, has been associated with better cognitive health.
 - As early as 2006, a study suggested that following this diet could reduce the risk of Alzheimer's.
 - A 2018 study, on the other hand, showed that the diet could slow the progression of the disease in those who already have early symptoms. Possible mechanisms of action
 - Olive oil is rich in polyphenols and antioxidants, which may protect brain cells from inflammation and oxidative stress.
 - It also supports cardiovascular health, which is important for brain blood flow and oxygen supply. Daily use of olive oil
 - Daily consumption of olive oil (about ½ tablespoon) can be a simple and effective way to support brain health.
 - The Mediterranean diet as a whole provides versatile protection against cognitive decline.
