What is a Sharon fruit?
The Sharon fruit is also known as persimmon or kaki. It is an exotic fruit that resembles a tomato in appearance, but its taste is sweet and soft. Sharon is actually a trade name for a specific variety of kaki from which the astringent tannins have been removed – that's why it is sweet even when raw.
• Skin: thin, bright orange or reddish
• Flesh: seedless, juicy, jelly-like when ripe
• Taste: sweet, reminiscent of apricot, plum, and peach

Growing regions
The origin of the Sharon fruit traces back to China, but it is now widely cultivated:
• In Asia: China, Korea, Japan
• In Europe: especially Spain and Italy
• In the Americas: southern parts of the United States
• In Israel: the name "Sharon fruit" comes from the Sharon region

Nutrients and Health Benefits
The Sharon fruit is a true vitamin bomb:
• Rich in vitamin C – supports the immune system
• Vitamin A – good for eyesight and skin
• Fiber – promotes digestion
• Potassium – supports heart and muscle function
• Antioxidants – protect cells from oxidation

When ripe, the fruit is especially sweet and contains more sugars, which appear as brown spots on the skin.
